Just after returning from the bp18 conference in Vienna in April 2018, it was time for me to take another test: the ITI exam for qualified membership. After having fulfilled the necessary criteria (university degree in translation and 3 years‘ full-time translation experience) and handing in all required documentation at the beginning of the year, the time had come. I received the official exam text on the agreed date, a Friday morning, and had until Monday afternoon to complete the 1,000-word translation and a 500-word commentary on tricky issues in the text and how I solved them. Very much like a real-life assingnment! After hitting “Send” on Monday afternoon, the waiting for the result began…
Only about four weeks later, the result was in: I passed! I am now entitled to use the MITI logo on my website and am listed in the ITI’s online translators‘ directory.
I would like to use this opportunity to thank all my clients and colleagues who provided my references – without you, I would never have managed to gain MITI status.
